East Gwillimbury Schools: Checking Boundaries for a New Home

How to use the YRDSB and YCDSB school locators for a new-build address, and why assignments can change.

New communities often do not have final addresses when they launch, which makes school assignment hard to confirm. This guide explains how to use the official locators and what to ask.

Run both if you are eligible for either system. French-language boards also serve the region; check them if relevant.

When a new address is not in the system

Locators may not recognise new streets until they are registered. Contact the board's planning or admissions office with the closest existing address and ask which schools currently serve the area.

Holding schools and changes

Boards sometimes assign new developments to a holding school until capacity changes or a new school opens. Ask whether the area is under review and whether bussing applies.

We do not promise or rank school assignments. Always confirm with the school board.

Checklist

  1. Search both locators using the nearest existing address.
  2. Call the board to confirm assignment for new development.
  3. Ask about holding schools and transportation.
  4. Re-check once the final address is issued.
